There are some loves that arrive quietly, asking permission before they enter your life.
And then there are the ones that don’t.
The ones that crash through every defence you’ve carefully built, leaving you wondering where you end and the other person begins.
You Had All of Me was born from that feeling.
It isn’t a poem about gentle romance. It’s about the overwhelming force of love when it becomes impossible to separate desire from devotion. When another person doesn’t simply become part of your life—they become woven into your thoughts, your memories, your heartbeat.
The opening line—
“You touched me, and something inside / The earth shifted on its axis.”
—isn’t meant to be taken literally. It’s about those rare moments when meeting someone changes your entire internal world. Nothing outside may have altered, but inside, everything feels different.
Throughout the poem, I use the language of hunger, fire and surrender. Love is described almost like an unstoppable force, consuming fear, logic and control. That isn’t because love is always destructive, but because deep love often asks us to become vulnerable in ways we never expected.
The line,
“If love is hunger, then feed me until I disappear,”
Speaks to complete emotional surrender. It’s the willingness to let go of the walls we’ve spent years building and to trust someone enough to see every part of us—the beautiful parts, the broken parts and everything in between.
The final lines…
“If it means I’m yours,
In every ruin,
Then I am lost in you.”
Are not about losing identity. They’re about choosing vulnerability despite knowing the risks. Loving someone so deeply that even the possibility of heartbreak doesn’t stop you from opening your heart.
Like much of my work, this poem lives in the space between passion and vulnerability. It explores what happens when love reaches beyond reason and becomes something almost instinctive—a force that both terrifies and transforms us.
Perhaps that’s why so many of us recognise ourselves in poems like this.
Most people know what it feels like to give someone more of themselves than they ever thought they would.
Sometimes love doesn’t ask politely.
Sometimes…
It simply takes your hand and changes everything.
